Player Analysis
The Good
- Vision – Elite in this category. Identifies holes quickly and finds running lanes with ease.
- Patience – Waits for blocks to develop as opposed to running full speed as soon as he touches the ball.
- Effort – Gives 100% on every play. Chased down a defender after a turnover and forced a fumble.
- Contact Balance – Physical back and can eat hits from defenders. Rarely knocked backwards.
- Durability – Only missed one game in college, which was due to illness not injury.
The Bad
- Pass Catching – Improved each year of college, but definitely not a dynamic threat in this area and only runs a basic route tree.
- Pass Blocking – Gives effort and identifies rushers, but needs work with mechanics.
- Elusiveness – Size prevents him from regularly juking defenders.
Overall Assessment
PRE-DRAFT: Allgeier began his collegiate career as a running back, switched to linebacker, and then moved back to running back. His physicality is an asset and his size affords him great contact balance. His best traits are his vision and patience as a runner. You won’t see him take many negative plays because he always seems to find the hole. Allgeier is a great fit for a zone blocking scheme and has the ability to make one cut and go. He didn’t test great in the 40 at the Combine, but he does possess enough game speed to break away from defenders for long gains. He’ll need to prove his worth in the passing game if he desires a three-down role in the NFL, but he is one of my favorite sleepers in this class.
